Google Chrome features an excellent Profile management system that allows you to separate your work bookmarks and history from your personal browsing. However, if you have multiple profiles set up, you might find that every time you launch the browser, Chrome presents you with a massive “Who’s browsing?” profile selection window.
If you primarily use one profile (like your personal account) 95% of the time, this extra click becomes incredibly tedious. You can configure Chrome to bypass this profile selection screen and automatically launch directly into your most recently used profile.
How to Stop Chrome from Asking “Who’s Browsing?” on Startup
You can disable the profile picker directly from the selection window itself, or from within the browser settings.
- Close all instances of Google Chrome and open the browser to trigger the “Who’s browsing?” profile picker window.
- In the bottom right corner of this profile selection screen, look for a small checkbox labelled Show on startup.
- Uncheck the box.
- Click on the profile you wish to use to launch the browser.
Alternatively, if you are already inside a Chrome window:
- Click your small circular Profile Icon in the top right corner (next to the three vertical dots).
- Click the Gear icon (Manage Profiles) next to the “Other profiles” header.
- The profile picker window will appear. Uncheck the Show on startup box in the bottom right corner.
The next time you click the Chrome shortcut on your desktop or taskbar, it will instantly open the browser using the profile you were last active on. If you ever need to switch to your work profile, simply click your Profile Icon in the top right corner and select the other account from the drop-down menu.
