How to Disable the Google Chrome ‘Shopping List’ Feature in Bookmarks

The E-commerce Clutter

Google Chrome has increasingly integrated shopping features directly into the browser. One of these is the “Shopping List.” If you try to bookmark a product page on a major retailer’s website (like Amazon or Best Buy), Chrome intercepts the standard bookmarking action and prompts you to add the item to a specialized “Shopping List.” This list tracks price drops and organizes products separately from your standard folders.

For users who use dedicated price-tracking extensions (like Keepa), or users who prefer to organize their potential purchases into their own meticulously structured bookmark folders, this feature is incredibly annoying. It breaks the standard bookmarking workflow and clutters the UI with e-commerce tools you didn’t ask for. You can disable this shopping integration.

How to Disable the Shopping List Feature

You must use Chrome’s hidden experimental flags menu to turn off the shopping tools.

  1. Open Google Chrome on your desktop.
  2. Click into the URL address bar at the top of the screen, type the following exactly, and press Enter:
chrome://flags
  1. At the top of the Flags page, you will see a “Search flags” box. Type Shopping into this box.
  2. Look for a flag named Shopping List (or “Enable Shopping List”).
  3. Click the dropdown menu next to it and change the setting from “Default” to Disabled.
  4. A large button will appear at the bottom of the screen saying Relaunch. Click it.

When Chrome restarts, the browser will no longer treat e-commerce pages differently. Clicking the star icon on an Amazon product page will simply open the standard, classic bookmark dialogue box, allowing you to save the link exactly where you want it without Google attempting to track the price.
