How to Delete a Page in Google Docs

Unlike a physical notebook, Google Docs does not have a simple “delete page” button. Because the software generates pages dynamically based on how much text you type, deleting a page requires you to remove whatever hidden formatting or content is forcing the document to create that extra space.

How to Delete a Page With Text or Images

If the page you want to delete actually has content on it, getting rid of it is simple:

  1. Click and drag your mouse cursor to highlight all the text, images, and empty spaces on the page you want to remove.
  2. Press the Backspace or Delete key on your keyboard.
  3. Once the content is gone, the page itself will vanish, and the document will shift up.

How to Delete a Stubborn Blank Page

Blank pages at the end or in the middle of a document are usually caused by hidden “Page Breaks” or excessive empty paragraph spaces.

  1. The Backspace Trick: Scroll to the blank page. Click your mouse cursor at the very top-left corner of the blank page (or the bottom-right corner of the page immediately before it). Press the Backspace key multiple times until the blank page disappears.
  2. Remove Page Breaks: If you intentionally (or accidentally) inserted a manual page break, you must delete it. Place your cursor right after the text where the page breaks abruptly, and press Delete to pull the text from the next page back up.
  3. Check Custom Spacing: Sometimes, the paragraph settings are pushing text to a new page. Highlight the empty area, click Format > Line & paragraph spacing > Custom spacing, and ensure “Space after” isn’t set to a massive number.

Pro Tip: If you are struggling to see where a page break is, go to the top menu, click View, and toggle off Show print layout. This will collapse the document into one continuous scroll, making it much easier to spot and delete large gaps.
