Many modern Android devices feature a “display cutout” or notch to house the front-facing camera and sensors. While apps usually adapt to this, some users prefer a traditional rectangular display or experience UI overlap issues in certain applications. This guide explains how to completely disable or hide the display cutout system-wide on Android using Developer Options.
Prerequisites
You must have Developer Options enabled on your Android device. To do this, go to Settings > About phone and tap the Build number seven times.
Disable the Display Cutout
Open Developer Options
Navigate to Settings > System > Developer options.
Locate the Display Cutout Setting
Scroll down to the Drawing section. Find and tap on Display cutout.
Select Hide Option
A menu will appear with several options. Select Hide (or on some devices, Hide without matching status bar). The exact wording may vary depending on the manufacturer.
Verify the Configuration
Once selected, the system will apply a black bar across the top of the screen, effectively hiding the notch and restricting apps from rendering in that area. This setting applies system-wide to all applications.
