How to Completely Disable ‘Battery Share’ (Reverse Wireless Charging) on Android

Battery Share (also known as reverse wireless charging) is a hardware feature available on select premium Android smartphones that allows the device to act as a wireless charging pad. By placing Qi-compatible accessories, such as wireless earbuds, smartwatches, or even another smartphone, on the back of the device, the Android phone transfers its own battery power to the accessory. While convenient in emergencies, Battery Share is highly inefficient and generates significant thermal output. Leaving it enabled can lead to accidental power drain if metallic objects or compatible devices brush against the induction coil, rapidly depleting your phone’s critical battery reserves when you need them most.

This guide explains how to completely disable the Battery Share feature system-wide on an Android device, ensuring your phone’s battery is strictly reserved for its own operations.

Disable Battery Share System-Wide

To prevent the Android kernel from energizing the internal Qi induction coil for reverse charging, we must disable the feature in the system’s power management settings.

  1. Open the main Settings app on your Android smartphone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Battery.
  3. Locate and tap on Battery Share (or Reverse Wireless Charging, depending on your device manufacturer’s terminology).
  4. At the top of the screen, toggle the switch labeled Allow Battery Share to the Off (grey) position.
  5. Optional but recommended: If your manufacturer UI provides an option for “Turn off automatically” (which disables the feature after a few minutes of inactivity), ensure this is left intact, though the master toggle being off renders it moot.

Verify the Configuration Lockdown

By disabling this toggle, you send an explicit command to the Android power management integrated circuit (PMIC) to deny power delivery to the reverse wireless charging induction coil.

To verify the lockdown is active, flip your Android smartphone face down. Place a known Qi-compatible device (such as a wireless charging case for earbuds or another smartphone) directly onto the center of the back panel, where the charging coil is located. The accessory will not react; it will not display a charging indicator, and the host Android device will not vibrate or show a notification indicating a power transfer.
