When researching a complex topic like planning a vacation or buying a new car, you often end up with fifteen different Google Chrome tabs open simultaneously—flights, hotels, rental cars, and travel blogs. If you need to shut down your computer for the night, saving those tabs individually by clicking the star icon fifteen separate times is incredibly tedious. Furthermore, if you save them individually, they will clutter your main Bookmarks Bar. Instead, Google Chrome allows you to instantly sweep every open tab in your current window into a single, neatly organized folder with just three clicks.
The Power of the “Bookmark All” Feature
The “Bookmark All Tabs” feature creates a perfect time capsule of your current browsing session. When you are ready to resume your research the next day, you simply middle-click the new folder, and Chrome instantly re-opens all fifteen tabs exactly as they were, allowing you to pick up right where you left off.
Step-by-Step: Sweeping the Tabs into a Folder
Before you begin, ensure you are only saving the tabs you actually want. If you have a random YouTube video or your webmail open in the same window, it will be swept into the folder as well. (It is often best to drag your research tabs into their own dedicated Chrome window first).
- Look at the top of your Chrome window where your open tabs are displayed.
- Right-click (or two-finger tap on a Mac) on any of the open tabs. It does not matter which one.
- A long drop-down menu will appear. Look near the bottom of this menu and select Bookmark all tabs….
- A small dialog box titled “Bookmark all tabs” will open.
- In the Name: field, type a descriptive title for your research session (e.g., “Hawaii Trip 2024” or “Car Comparison”).
