The Autofill Liability
Google Chrome is designed to make web navigation faster by aggressively employing its Autofill engine. Whenever you fill out a web form (registering for an account, entering a shipping address, or typing a phone number), Chrome silently records this data. The next time you encounter a similar form, Chrome will automatically display a dropdown list suggesting you use your previously saved information. While convenient for personal use, this is a massive privacy and security risk if you share your computer with others, or if you are using a public terminal, as anyone who clicks into a form field will instantly see your personal data offered up as a suggestion.
Disabling the Form Saving Engine
To ensure your private data remains completely private and stop Google Chrome from automatically recording and subsequently suggesting data for web forms, you must disable the Autofill settings in the browser.
Open Google Chrome. Click the three vertical dots in the top-right corner of the window and select Settings from the dropdown menu. In the left-hand navigation pane, click on Autofill and passwords. You must address the primary source of form data: your addresses. Click on Addresses and more. At the top of this menu, you will see a toggle switch labeled Save and fill addresses (this setting also governs phone numbers and email addresses in generic forms). Click this toggle to switch it to the Off position (the switch will turn grey). From this point forward, Chrome will no longer silently record your form inputs and will never present a dropdown suggestion box when you click into a text field.
