How to Delete a Bookmark in Google Chrome

Bookmarking a website is incredibly easy; often, a single click of the star icon is all it takes. However, because it is so effortless, it is very common to accumulate hundreds of bookmarks over several months. You might save temporary flight itineraries, old news articles, or discontinued products. Eventually, your Bookmarks Bar becomes so cluttered that you can no longer find the important links you actually need.

To keep your web browser fast and organized, you should routinely delete bookmarks that you no longer visit. Google Chrome provides several different ways to do this, depending on whether you want to delete a single link or clear out an entire folder.

Method 1: Deleting from the Bookmarks Bar

If the bookmark you want to delete is visibly sitting on the horizontal strip underneath your address bar, removing it takes two seconds.

1. Hover your mouse cursor directly over the bookmark you want to remove.
2. Right-click the bookmark.
3. A drop-down menu will appear. Click Delete.

The bookmark will instantly vanish from the bar. There is no confirmation prompt, so be careful not to accidentally delete the wrong icon.

Method 2: Deleting from the Bookmark Manager

If you have hundreds of bookmarks buried inside deep folders, you cannot rely on the right-click method. You need to open Chrome’s dedicated management dashboard.

1. Click the three vertical dots (the menu icon) in the very top-right corner of Chrome.
2. Hover your mouse over Bookmarks and lists.
3. Click on Bookmark manager. (Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + Shift + O on Windows, or Cmd + Option + B on a Mac).

A new tab will open displaying a split-screen view. The left side shows all your folders, and the right side shows the individual websites inside those folders.

4. Navigate to the folder containing the unwanted bookmark.
5. Locate the specific website in the right-hand panel.
6. Click the three vertical dots next to that specific website.
7. Click Delete.

How to Delete Multiple Bookmarks at Once

The Bookmark Manager is the only place where you can delete dozens of links simultaneously.

To highlight multiple bookmarks, hold down the Ctrl key on Windows (or the Cmd key on Mac) and click on each bookmark you want to remove. Once they are all highlighted in blue, look at the top right corner of the screen and click the red Delete button to wipe them all out in one single action.
