Google Keep is an incredibly fast, lightweight tool for jotting down quick ideas, grocery lists, and reminders. However, if you use it frequently, your main dashboard will quickly become cluttered with dozens of old, completed notes that you no longer need to look at every day. While you could simply delete them, you might want to reference an old list or idea in the future. Instead of deleting your data, Google Keep allows you to “Archive” notes, sweeping them off your main screen while keeping them safely stored and fully searchable.
How to Archive a Note
Archiving a note takes only a single click and instantly cleans up your workspace.
- Open Google Keep on your computer (keep.google.com) or via the mobile app.
- Locate the note you want to hide from the main view.
- Hover your mouse over the note (or tap it on mobile to open it).
- At the bottom of the note, you will see a row of small icons. Look for the icon that looks like a folder with a downward-pointing arrow inside it.
- Click the Archive icon.
The note will instantly vanish from your main dashboard with a smooth animation.
How to Find and Unarchive Notes
Archived notes are not gone; they are simply moved to a different folder. If you ever need to reference an old grocery list or a meeting agenda you stored away, it is very easy to retrieve.
- Click the Main Menu button (the three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner of the screen to open the sidebar.
- Click on Archive (it has the same folder icon).
- Here, you will see every note you have ever archived. You can browse through them or use the main search bar at the top of the screen (the search function looks through both active and archived notes simultaneously).
- To move a note back to your main dashboard, hover over it and click the Unarchive icon (a folder with an upward-pointing arrow).
By regularly archiving notes instead of deleting them, you maintain a clean, distraction-free workspace while preserving a permanent, searchable database of your ideas.
