How to Completely Disable ‘Animations’ (Window and Transition Scales) on Android

Modern Android interfaces rely heavily on fluid animations and transition effects when opening apps, pulling down the notification shade, or switching between tasks. While these animations make the operating system feel premium and smooth, they actually introduce a slight, artificial delay to every action. If you prioritize raw speed over visual flair, or if you are using an older device with a struggling processor, waiting for a half-second window scale animation to complete every time you tap an icon is incredibly frustrating. You can make your device feel significantly faster by entirely eliminating these transition delays.

This guide explains how to completely disable all system animations (Window and Transition scales) on an Android smartphone.

Enable Developer Options

The controls to govern system-level rendering speeds are hidden within the Android Developer Options, which must be unlocked first.

1. Open the main Settings app on your Android smartphone.
2. Scroll to the very bottom and tap on About phone (or “About device”).
3. Tap on Software information (if applicable to your manufacturer UI, like Samsung).
4. Locate the Build number entry.
5. Rapidly tap on Build number seven (7) times. You may be prompted to enter your lock screen PIN.
6. A small toast notification will appear stating, “You are now a developer!”.

Disable the Animation Scales

With the hidden menu unlocked, we can now force the rendering engine to draw screens instantaneously.

1. Go back to the main Settings menu.
2. Scroll to the bottom and tap on the newly revealed Developer options.
3. Scroll down significantly until you find the Drawing section.
4. You will see three specific settings:

   • Transition animation scale
   • Animator duration scale
5. Tap on each of these three settings individually. A pop-up menu will appear.
6. Select Animation off for all three.

Verify the Instantaneous UI

The changes to the rendering pipeline are applied immediately without requiring a reboot.

To verify the restriction is active, press the Home button. The app you are currently in will instantly vanish, replaced by the home screen without any shrinking or fading effect. Tap on any app icon, and the application will snap onto the screen instantly. While the interface may feel slightly jarring or abrupt at first, the complete elimination of artificial rendering delays guarantees that your phone operates at the absolute maximum speed its processor can handle.
