Whether you use Siri on Apple Watch to set timers, dictate quick text messages, start workouts, or check the weather forecast, audio feedback should suit your surroundings. If you are walking along a busy metropolitan street or running outdoors, Siri’s spoken responses can sound faint and inaudible. Conversely, during quiet office meetings, Siri’s voice might shout unexpectedly when confirming a timer.
In watchOS, Siri’s voice volume operates on a dedicated audio channel separate from your general media playback and notification haptic chime volumes. You can calibrate Siri’s speaking level directly from your watch settings.
Adjusting Siri Speaking Volume in watchOS Settings
To customise how loudly Siri responds on your Apple Watch:
- Press the Digital Crown on your Apple Watch to access the home grid, then tap the Settings app (gear icon).
- Scroll down and tap Siri.
- Scroll down to the Siri Responses section and tap Voice Volume – Speaker.
- You will see a volume slider flanked by speaker icons. Tap the louder speaker icon on the right to increase volume, or tap the smaller icon on the left to decrease it.
- Alternatively, turn the Digital Crown clockwise or counter-clockwise while this screen is active to adjust the volume incrementally.
As you adjust the slider, the watch plays a sample audio prompt demonstrating Siri’s new speech level.
Configuring When Siri Speaks on Apple Watch
In addition to adjusting loudness, you can control when Siri provides spoken responses versus silent text feedback on the watch display:
- In Settings > Siri, tap Siri Responses.
- Choose between three distinct response modes:
- Always On: Siri speaks responses aloud even when your Apple Watch is in Silent Mode.
- Control With Silent Mode: Siri speaks aloud only when Silent Mode is turned off. If you toggle the bell icon in Control Centre, Siri silences vocal responses and displays text on screen.
- Headphones Only: Siri only speaks when your Apple Watch is connected to AirPods or Bluetooth headphones.
Setting Siri Responses to Control With Silent Mode ensures Siri never announces private reminders aloud in public settings.
