When you are preparing a sensitive PDF document (e.g., a financial report containing Social Security Numbers or a legal brief containing classified coordinates) for public distribution on a macOS workstation, simply drawing a black rectangle over the text using standard markup tools is catastrophically insecure. The underlying vector data remains fully intact in the XML file, allowing anyone to highlight, copy, and paste the hidden text. To mathematically annihilate the data vectors and permanently destroy the sensitive information, you must deploy the true Redact protocol within the native Preview application.
Executing the Vector Annihilation Matrix
The macOS Preview Redact tool does not merely cover pixels. When executed and saved, it interfaces directly with the Core Graphics engine to violently shred the targeted text vectors, overwrite them with black geometric blocks, and permanently delete the underlying ASCII/UTF-8 strings from the file’s architecture.
