When you are auditing a massive, text-dense PDF document (such as a legal contract or a scientific whitepaper) on a macOS workstation, reading raw black-and-white text is visually inefficient. To force the macOS neural engine to inject a bright, translucent geometric vector over specific text strings—perfectly simulating a physical highlighter pen without destroying the underlying typographic matrix—you must deploy the Highlight tool within the native Preview application.
Initializing the Highlight Architecture
The Preview application possesses a deeply integrated markup engine that interacts directly with the mathematical text layer of the PDF.
- Locate your target PDF file in Finder and double-click to open it natively in Preview.
