When you receive a massive, highly critical legal PDF (like an NDA, a lease agreement, or an employment contract) on your macOS workstation, printing the document physically, signing it with ink, and rescanning it is a mathematically archaic and inefficient protocol. To force the macOS neural engine to digitize your physical handwriting and inject it directly into the PDF vector matrix, you must use the Signature tool within the native Preview application.
Initializing the Signature Engine
The Preview application contains a highly advanced, biometric capture engine capable of importing your signature via your Mac’s physical hardware.
- Locate your target PDF file in Finder and double-click to open it natively in Preview.
- Look at the absolute top-right of the window and click the Show Markup Toolbar icon (it visually resembles a small marker pen).
- A secondary toolbar will violently deploy. Locate the Sign icon (it visually resembles a cursive signature next to a small ‘x’).
- Click the icon to deploy the signature matrix. If you have no saved signatures, click Create Signature.
Executing the Capture Protocol
The macOS engine will present you with two primary vectors for capturing your biometric data:
- Trackpad Vector: Click the “Trackpad” tab, then click “Click Here to Begin.” Your physical trackpad is now a direct 1:1 drawing tablet. Use your physical finger (or a capacitive stylus) to draw your signature directly on the trackpad. Press any key on your keyboard to terminate the capture.
- Camera Vector: Click the “Camera” tab. Take a piece of pristine white paper and draw your signature on it using thick black ink. Hold the paper up to your Mac’s physical webcam. The neural engine will mathematically scan the video feed, identify the black ink, extract the vector path, and instantly digitize the signature.
Injecting the Biometric Payload
Once you click “Done,” the signature is permanently saved in your Preview matrix.
- To sign the active document, simply click the Sign icon again and select your newly captured signature from the dropdown list.
- The engine will algorithmically spawn the vector signature in the center of the PDF.
- Click and hold the signature to physically drag it to the correct signature line on the contract. Use the blue bounding nodes to scale the vector up or down without losing resolution.
- Press Cmd + S to permanently bake the signature data into the legal file structure.
