When you are forensically auditing a massive, multi-hundred-page PDF document on a macOS workstation, manually scrolling to locate critical geometric nodes (like specific data tables, signature lines, or legal clauses) is severely mathematically inefficient. To force the macOS neural engine to inject permanent, high-speed navigational anchors directly into the file’s architectural structure, you must deploy the Bookmark vector within the native Preview application.
Understanding the Bookmark Architecture
Unlike standard text highlighting (which only alters the visual layer), a Bookmark in Preview is a structural hyperlink. It mathematically binds a specific chronological page integer to a rapid-access navigational sidebar, allowing you to instantly teleport across hundreds of pages with a single click. These geometric anchors are saved directly into the PDF metadata.
Executing the Anchor Injection
- Locate your target PDF file in Finder and double-click to open it natively in Preview.
- Scroll through the document matrix and stop on the exact page you wish to mathematically isolate.
- Look at the absolute top menu bar of the screen. Click on Tools.
- Select the Add Bookmark command from the drop-down menu (or execute the absolute hotkey: Cmd + D).
- The Preview engine will instantly inject a hidden geometric anchor into that specific page integer. You will not see a visual change on the page itself.
Deploying the Navigational Matrix
To utilize the anchors you have injected, you must expose the hidden navigational sidebar.

If a bookmark is no longer mathematically relevant, you must delete it from the structural metadata.
- Ensure the Bookmarks sidebar is visible.
- Right-click (or Control-click) the specific bookmark you wish to annihilate.
- Select Delete from the context menu (or simply press the Delete key on your keyboard while the bookmark is highlighted). The kernel will instantly purge the geometric link.
