The Shaky Pointer
macOS includes an accessibility feature designed to help users locate a lost mouse pointer on large, high-resolution displays. By default, if you rapidly shake your physical mouse back and forth, or quickly swipe your finger back and forth across the trackpad, the tiny black cursor on the screen will suddenly enlarge to comical proportions for a brief second. While this is helpful for visually impaired users or those with massive multi-monitor setups, it can be highly distracting for gamers, graphic designers, or anyone who frequently uses fast, erratic mouse movements as part of their normal workflow.
Disabling the Shake to Find Feature
To keep your pointer a consistent size and stop macOS from automatically enlarging the cursor when you move the mouse rapidly, you must turn off this specific accessibility setting.
Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your screen and select System Settings. In the left-hand navigation sidebar, scroll down and click on Accessibility. In the main right-hand panel, under the “Vision” section, click on Display. Look down the list of options until you find the toggle switch explicitly labelled Shake mouse pointer to locate. By default, this is turned on (blue). Click the toggle to turn it completely Off (grey). Your mouse cursor will now remain locked to the size you specified in the slider above, regardless of how frantically you move your hand.
