Do Not Disturb is a fantastic iOS feature that silences calls, text messages, and app notifications, allowing you to sleep, work, or relax without constant interruptions. However, if you forget to turn it off, you might miss important phone calls from family members, urgent emails from your boss, or timely text messages. Knowing exactly how to disable Do Not Disturb—and making sure you aren’t accidentally trapped in a Focus mode—is crucial for ensuring your iPhone rings when you need it to.
Method 1: Using the Control Center (The Fastest Way)
The Control Center provides instant access to your iPhone’s core toggles from any screen, even when the device is locked.
- Open the Control Center:
- If you have an iPhone with Face ID (no home button): Swipe down from the top right corner of your screen.
- If you have an iPhone with Touch ID (a physical home button): Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.
- Look for the rectangular Focus toggle button. If Do Not Disturb is active, this button will be highlighted in white, displaying a purple crescent moon icon and the words “Do Not Disturb.”
- Tap the crescent moon icon once.
- The button will immediately turn gray, the moon icon will disappear, and the text will change back to just “Focus.” Do Not Disturb is now disabled, and all notifications will come through normally.
Method 2: Using the Settings App
You can also toggle this feature off through the main Settings menu.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap on Focus (look for the purple moon icon).
- Tap on Do Not Disturb at the top of the list.
- Toggle the switch next to Do Not Disturb so that it turns gray (off).
Why is Do Not Disturb Still Turning On?
If you keep turning Do Not Disturb off, but find that it automatically turns itself back on later, you likely have a schedule set up. Here is how to fix it:
- Open Settings and tap Focus, then tap Do Not Disturb.
- Scroll down to the “Set a Schedule” section.
- You might see schedules like “From 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM” or “While at Work.”
- Tap on any active schedule.
- Toggle the switch at the top to disable that specific schedule, or tap Delete Schedule at the very bottom to remove it entirely. Your iPhone will no longer activate the mode automatically.
