The Voice Bypass Vulnerability
By default, the iPhone allows full access to the Siri voice assistant even when the device is completely locked and secured with Face ID or a passcode. Anyone holding your phone—or anyone simply standing near your phone in a quiet room—can trigger the assistant and command it to read your recent text messages, reveal your calendar appointments, or place phone calls to your contacts. In the event your phone is stolen, or if you work in a highly sensitive professional environment, this voice-activated bypass is a massive security vulnerability. You must permanently revoke Siri’s Lock Screen privileges.
How to Disable Siri on the Lock Screen
You can permanently secure the voice assistant via the Face ID & Passcode settings.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap on Face ID & Passcode (or Touch ID & Passcode).
- Enter your strict device passcode to authenticate.
- Scroll down to the section labeled “Allow Access When Locked.”
- Locate the toggle switch labeled Siri.
- Toggle this switch to the Off position (the green background will disappear).
A Hardened Audio Perimeter
The change takes effect instantly. The iPhone will completely sever the bridge connecting the microphone array to the Siri daemon while the screen is locked. You can now lock your phone and leave it on your desk, and the operating system will absolutely refuse to process voice commands. If a malicious actor holds down the power button or shouts “Hey Siri,” the phone will remain completely silent, guaranteeing that your personal data cannot be audibly extracted without biometric authentication.
