How to Disable the Perspective Zoom on iPhone Wallpapers

When you set a new wallpaper on your iPhone, you might notice that the background image seems to subtly shift and move as you tilt your device. This effect is called “Perspective Zoom.” Apple designed it to create a sense of depth and 3D space on your Home Screen and Lock Screen. While visually interesting, this motion effect can cause motion sickness for some users, drain your battery slightly faster, and sometimes crop your favourite photos in awkward ways to create the illusion. If you prefer a static, perfectly positioned background, you can easily turn this feature off.

How to Disable Perspective Zoom When Setting a Wallpaper

The easiest way to disable the effect is right at the moment you are choosing a new background image.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Wallpaper.
  3. Tap Add New Wallpaper (or tap ‘Customize’ on your current setup).
  4. Select the photo you wish to use from your library.
  5. Before tapping ‘Add’ or ‘Done’, look at the bottom corner of the screen. You will see a small icon that looks like a phone with arrows pointing outward (or a circle with three dots, depending on your iOS version).
  6. Tap the Perspective Zoom icon to toggle it.
  7. The icon will change, and a brief message will confirm “Perspective Zoom: Off.”
  8. You can now pinch to resize and position your photo exactly as you want it. It will remain entirely static.

How to Disable All Motion Effects System-Wide

If you dislike the parallax effect on wallpapers, you might also dislike the flying animations when opening and closing apps. You can disable all of these effects at once using an Accessibility setting.

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Motion, and toggle the switch for Reduce Motion to the “On” position. This will automatically disable Perspective Zoom on all wallpapers and replace the zooming app animations with a subtle crossfade, which many users find faster and less dizzying.
