How to Customise and Rearrange Control Centre in iOS 18 on iPhone

For years, iPhone users were limited to a rigid, semi-customizable grid of toggles inside Control Centre. In iOS 18, Apple completely overhauled this interface into a dynamic, multi-page canvas. Learning how to master Control Centre iOS 18 customization allows you to resize individual control tiles, integrate controls from third-party apps, create dedicated pages for media and home automation, and build a layout tailored to your personal habits.

What Is New in the iOS 18 Control Centre?

The updated Control Centre introduces several major architectural shifts:

  • Fluid Grid and Resizing: Control tiles are no longer locked to fixed dimensions. You can expand toggles from small 1×1 buttons into large 2×2 or 4×2 widgets.
  • Controls Gallery: A searchable directory of system toggles, Accessibility shortcuts, and third-party app actions.
  • Multi-Page Organization: Dedicated swipeable pages for Favourites, Media Playback, HomeKit controls, and Connectivity.
  • Third-Party Integration: Developers can expose custom quick-action controls via the Controls API.

How to Enter Control Centre Edit Mode

Customising your layout no longer requires opening the Settings app:

  1. Swipe down from the top-right corner of your iPhone screen to summon Control Centre.
  2. Tap the Plus (+) button in the upper-left corner of the screen (or press and hold any empty background area).
  3. Control Centre enters jiggle mode: small minus (-) badges appear on active tiles, and a draggable handle appears on the corner of resizable widgets.

Adding New Toggles from the Controls Gallery

To populate your layout with new tools:

  1. While in edit mode, tap Add a Control at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Browse the searchable Controls Gallery, categorized into sections such as Accessibility, Clock, Connectivity, Display & Brightness, Notes, and Shortcuts.
  3. Tap any desired control to drop it onto your active grid.

Resizing and Rearranging Control Tiles

Each control can be visually shaped according to how frequently you use it:

  • Repositioning: Touch and hold any tile, then drag it across the grid. Other tiles will automatically shift position to make room.
  • Resizing: In edit mode, locate the rounded accent handle in the bottom-right corner of the tile. Drag the handle horizontally or vertically to expand the control from a compact 1×1 icon into a 2×2 card or a wide rectangular slider.
  • Removing: Tap the Minus (-) icon on any unwanted control to delete it from the grid.

Navigating and Customising Multi-Page Groups

Along the right-hand edge of Control Centre, iOS 18 displays small glyph icons representing different functional pages:

  • Favourites (Top icon): Your primary, fully customized home board.
  • Media Playback (Music note icon): A full-screen interactive card for actively playing audio, AirPlay output selection, and scrub controls.
  • Home (House icon): Smart lights, thermostat sliders, security cameras, and HomeKit scenes.
  • Connectivity (Antenna icon): Detailed toggles for Cellular Data, Wi-Fi networks, Bluetooth devices, AirDrop, Personal Hotspot, and VPN tunnels.

You can swipe vertically down the right edge to jump between pages instantly, or swipe naturally anywhere on the screen.

Creating a Brand-New Custom Page

If you want a dedicated page solely for work shortcuts or camera utilities:

  1. Enter edit mode by tapping the Plus (+) button.
  2. Swipe down to the very bottom page indicator where a blank circle appears.
  3. Tap Add a Control to place your first widget on the fresh page.
  4. Once populated, this page becomes a permanent part of your swipeable Control Centre hierarchy.

To exit edit mode, tap anywhere on the dark background or swipe up from the bottom home bar.
