How to Check the Battery Cycle Count on an iPhone 15 or Newer

For years, iPhone users who wanted to know the exact cycle count of their battery had to rely on third-party Mac applications or complex analytics logs. A “charge cycle” represents one complete 100% discharge and recharge of the battery. Knowing this number is the most accurate way to understand the physical age of a lithium-ion battery.

Starting with the iPhone 15 series (and carrying forward to newer models), Apple finally introduced a native way to view the exact battery cycle count directly within the iOS Settings app. Here is how to find it.

How to Find the iPhone Battery Cycle Count

If you own an iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Pro, or a newer model running iOS 17 or later, the process takes only a few seconds.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Battery.
  3. Tap on Battery Health & Charging (or simply Battery Health on some newer iOS versions).
  4. Look at the bottom of the screen. You will see a dedicated section detailing your battery’s manufacturing date, the date of its first use, and the Cycle Count.

The cycle count is displayed as a simple number, such as “142.”

What Does the Cycle Count Mean?

Apple states that the batteries in the iPhone 15 lineup are designed to retain 80% of their original capacity at 1,000 complete charge cycles under ideal conditions. This was a significant upgrade from older iPhone models, which were rated for 500 charge cycles before reaching the 80% threshold.

If your cycle count is approaching 1,000 and your Maximum Capacity percentage is dropping below 80%, you will likely experience significantly reduced battery life and potential performance throttling. At this point, the battery is considered chemically degraded, and you may want to consider booking an official battery replacement through Apple to restore your iPhone to peak performance.

Note: If you are using an iPhone 14 or older, this cycle count menu is not available natively. You will only be able to view the Maximum Capacity percentage in the Battery Health menu.
