How to Forward a Text Message on an iPhone

If you receive a text message containing important information, a funny joke, or a great photo, you might want to share it with someone else. Instead of copying and pasting the text or saving the image, you can simply forward the message directly from the Messages app on your iPhone. Here is a quick guide on how to forward a text message on an iPhone.

How to Forward a Single or Multiple Messages

Forwarding a message on iOS is simple, but the option is slightly hidden behind a menu. Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Messages app and navigate to the conversation that contains the message you want to forward.
  2. Touch and hold (long-press) the specific message bubble you wish to share.
  3. A pop-up menu will appear. Tap More… at the bottom of this menu.
  4. You will notice a blue checkmark appears next to the message you selected. If you want to forward additional messages from the same conversation, tap the empty circles next to those messages to select them as well.
  5. Once you have selected all the messages you want to forward, tap the Forward button (the curved arrow icon) in the bottom right corner of the screen.
  6. A new message composition screen will appear with your selected texts or media already attached. Type the recipient’s name, phone number, or email address in the “To:” field at the top.
  7. Tap the blue or green Send arrow to forward the message.

Automatic Text Message Forwarding to Other Apple Devices

If your goal is not to forward a single message to a friend, but rather to receive all your SMS/MMS messages on your iPad or Mac, Apple has a built-in feature for that:

  • Go to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding.
  • Toggle the switch to the “On” position for any Apple device where you want to send and receive text messages from your iPhone’s phone number.
