How to Turn On Do Not Disturb on iPhone

The Notification Suppression Vector

During a critical corporate meeting, an exam, or a deep sleep cycle, a sudden barrage of group chat notifications and promotional emails vibrating your iPhone is unacceptable. You cannot simply turn the volume down, as the screen will continue to illuminate the room. You must instruct the iOS kernel to execute a total notification blockade, mathematically intercepting all incoming transmissions and silencing them before they ever trigger the hardware actuators.

How to Turn On Do Not Disturb

Apple evolved the legacy “Do Not Disturb” function into a highly complex, context-aware “Focus” matrix, accessible via the central Control Centre overlay.

1. Summon the Control Centre:
* For iPhones with Face ID (No Home Button): Place your finger on the absolute top-right corner of the screen (over the battery icon) and swipe firmly downwards.
* For iPhones with a Home Button: Place your finger on the absolute bottom edge of the screen and swipe firmly upwards.
2. The Execution Trigger:
* Locate the wide, rectangular button labelled Focus (it usually has an icon of a crescent moon next to it).
* Critical Distinction: Do not tap the word “Focus.” Tap the actual Crescent Moon icon located on the left side of that button.
* The button will instantly illuminate white, the icon will turn purple, and the text will change to “Do Not Disturb.” The blockade is now active.
3. The Contextual Matrix (Advanced Configuration):
* If you tapped the word “Focus” instead of the moon icon, a secondary menu expands.
* Here, you can select highly specific, pre-configured suppression profiles.
* Sleep: Blocks everything, dims the screen heavily, and usually requires a scheduled bedtime.
* Work: You can program this profile to block everything except emails from your boss and phone calls from your spouse.
* Personal: Blocks work emails but allows social media notifications.

To deactivate the blockade and allow notifications to flow normally, simply summon the Control Centre again and tap the illuminated Crescent Moon icon to turn it off.
