How to Disable Control Center on the iPhone Lock Screen

The Airplane Mode Vulnerability

By default, the iPhone allows you to swipe down from the top-right corner of the screen to access the Control Center, even when the phone is completely locked and secured with a passcode. While this is convenient for quickly turning on the flashlight, it presents a massive security vulnerability. If a thief steals your iPhone, the very first thing they will do is swipe down from the Lock Screen and tap the “Airplane Mode” button. This instantly severs the cellular connection, completely disabling the “Find My” tracking network before you even realize the phone is missing. To prevent this, you must lock the Control Center behind Face ID.

How to Turn Off Control Center on the Lock Screen

You can revoke access to the quick toggles via the security settings.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Face ID & Passcode (or Touch ID & Passcode).
  3. Enter your 6-digit PIN code to access the secure menu.
  4. Scroll down to the section labeled “Allow Access When Locked.”
  5. Look for the toggle switch labeled Control Center.
  6. Toggle this switch to the Off position (the green background will disappear).

Securing Your Connection

The change is instantaneous. The next time your iPhone is locked, swiping down from the top-right corner will do absolutely nothing. A thief will be physically unable to activate Airplane Mode or turn off the Wi-Fi. The only way to access those cellular toggles is for the phone to successfully scan your face or receive the correct passcode, guaranteeing that your phone remains connected to the tracking network if it is stolen.
