The “Announce Calls” feature on iOS uses Siri to read out the caller’s name or number when you receive an incoming call. While helpful when you are driving or wearing headphones, it can be disruptive or compromise privacy in public settings. This guide explains how to completely disable Announce Calls system-wide on an iPhone.
Prerequisites
No special privileges are required. This setting is available on all modern iOS versions.
Disable Announce Calls
Open Settings
Unlock your iPhone and open the Settings app from the home screen.
Navigate to Siri or Phone Settings
Depending on your iOS version, you can find this setting in two places. Scroll down and tap on either Siri & Search or Phone.
Locate Announce Calls
Find the option labeled Announce Calls and tap on it.
Select Never
You will see a list of options such as Always, Headphones & Car, Headphones Only, and Never. Tap on Never to completely disable the feature.
Verify the Configuration
Once disabled, a blue checkmark will appear next to “Never”. Your iPhone will no longer use Siri to announce incoming callers, and will rely solely on your standard ringtone and vibration settings.
