How to Clear AutoFill Data in Google Chrome

Google Chrome is designed to make web browsing as frictionless as possible. One of its most helpful features is AutoFill, which remembers your name, address, phone number, and credit card details, automatically pasting them into checkout forms so you do not have to type them repeatedly.

However, over time, this database becomes cluttered with outdated information. You might find Chrome suggesting an old apartment address for shipping, an expired credit card, or a misspelled email address that you accidentally typed months ago. To keep your browsing secure and prevent ordering mistakes, you should regularly clear or edit this AutoFill data.

How to Delete Specific AutoFill Entries

If you only want to remove one specific outdated address or an incorrect phone number while keeping the rest of your saved data intact, you should manage your entries individually.

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click the three vertical dots (the More menu) in the top right corner of the window.
  3. Hover over Passwords and Autofill in the drop-down menu, and click on Addresses and more. (If you want to remove an old credit card, click Payment methods instead).
  4. You will see a list of every address or phone number Chrome has saved. Locate the outdated entry.
  5. Click the three vertical dots next to that specific entry.
  6. Select Remove from the small pop-up menu.

The entry will instantly vanish and will no longer appear as a suggestion when you fill out web forms.

How to Clear All AutoFill Data at Once

If you are handing your computer over to a new employee, preparing to sell your laptop, or simply want to wipe the slate clean for privacy reasons, you can delete the entire AutoFill database in one action using the Chrome browsing data tool.

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Click the three vertical dots in the top right corner.
  3. Hover over More tools and select Clear browsing data. (Alternatively, you can press Ctrl + Shift + Delete on Windows, or Command + Shift + Delete on Mac).
  4. A new window will appear. At the top, click the Advanced tab.
  5. Click the Time range drop-down menu and change it to All time to ensure you delete everything.
  6. Uncheck all the boxes to prevent accidentally deleting your passwords or browsing history, but leave the box for Autofill form data checked.
  7. Click the blue Clear data button.

Chrome will completely erase your addresses, phone numbers, and random text snippets from its memory bank.

How to Stop Chrome from Saving New Data

If you prefer to type your information manually to maintain maximum privacy and prevent Chrome from ever saving this data again, you can disable the AutoFill feature entirely.

  1. Return to the settings menu by clicking the three dots > Passwords and Autofill > Addresses and more.
  2. At the very top of the page, you will see a toggle switch labelled Save and fill addresses.
  3. Click the switch to turn it off (it will turn grey).

Chrome will no longer prompt you to save new addresses after you make a purchase, and it will stop offering drop-down suggestions when you click on text boxes.
