How to Make Your Windows 11 Taskbar Completely Transparent

Windows 11 features a frosted glass “Mica” effect on the taskbar, which blurs the colors of your desktop wallpaper behind it. While it looks modern, the taskbar still maintains a solid, visible background block. If you want a truly minimalist, futuristic aesthetic where your app icons appear to be floating directly on your wallpaper, you need to make the taskbar 100% transparent. Because Microsoft does not include this feature natively, we have to use a free, open-source application.

Installing TranslucentTB

TranslucentTB is a lightweight, widely trusted utility available directly from the official Microsoft Store.

  1. Open the Microsoft Store app on your Windows 11 PC.
  2. Search for TranslucentTB in the top search bar.
  3. Click the blue Get or Install button.
  4. Once installed, click Open to launch the app.

The moment you click Open, your taskbar’s background will instantly vanish, leaving your Start button and app icons floating beautifully over your wallpaper.

How to Customize the Effect

If the completely clear look makes your icons hard to read against a bright wallpaper, you can adjust the effect.

  1. Look at the bottom-right corner of your screen (the System Tray) and click the small Up Arrow to show hidden icons.
  2. Click on the TranslucentTB icon (a small “TB” logo).
  3. Hover your mouse over the Desktop menu option.
  4. Here, you can choose different styles such as Clear, Acrylic (a softer blur), or Opaque.

The application uses virtually zero system resources and will automatically start up with Windows, ensuring your taskbar always stays transparent.
