How to Disable the Snap Layouts Hover Menu in Windows 11

Windows 11 introduced a powerful multitasking feature called Snap Layouts. Whenever you hover your mouse cursor over the maximize button in the top-right corner of any app window, a large grid appears showing different split-screen arrangements. While useful for massive monitors, this pop-up menu can be incredibly annoying on smaller laptop screens, especially if you trigger it accidentally while simply trying to close a window.

How to Disable the Hover Menu

You can easily turn off this pop-up trigger without entirely disabling the core snapping functionality (you can still drag windows to the edge of the screen to snap them).

  1. Open the Settings app by pressing Windows Key + I.
  2. Ensure you are on the System tab in the left-hand sidebar.
  3. In the main window, click on Multitasking.
  4. Look for the main toggle switch labelled Snap windows. Do not turn this switch off, as doing so completely disables all screen-snapping features.
  5. Instead, click the small downward-pointing arrow on the far right side of the “Snap windows” panel to expand its advanced settings.
  6. In the expanded list, find the checkbox labelled: Show snap layouts when I hover over a window’s maximize button.
  7. Click the checkbox to uncheck it.

The change is applied immediately. You can now safely rest your mouse cursor over the maximize button of any application, and the large grid overlay will no longer appear to block your view.
