How to Sign Out of Google Drive on All Devices

Did you log into your Google Drive on a hotel business center computer and forget to log out? Or perhaps you sold an old iPad but forgot to wipe the Google Drive app before handing it over? If your Google Drive is left open on an unsecured device, a stranger could easily access your private financial documents, personal photos, and sensitive work files.

Fortunately, you do not need physical access to the device to secure your account. You can instantly force a logout on any computer, tablet, or phone remotely. Here is how to sign out of Google Drive on all devices.

How to Force a Remote Sign Out

Because Google Drive is tied directly to your central Google Account, you manage your active sessions through Google’s centralized security dashboard.

  1. Open a web browser on your current, safe computer or smartphone.
  2. Go to myaccount.google.com and log in with your credentials.
  3. In the left-hand navigation menu, click on Security.
  4. Scroll down the page until you find the section titled Your devices. This panel shows a quick summary of the phones and computers currently synced to your account.
  5. Click the blue text that says Manage all devices.

You will now see a comprehensive grid of every single device that has accessed your Google Account in the last 28 days.

  1. Click on the specific device you left logged in (for example, “Windows PC in Chicago”).
  2. A new menu will appear showing exactly what time the device was last active and which specific apps (like Chrome or Google Drive) it is using.
  3. Click the grey Sign out button.
  4. A confirmation pop-up will appear warning you that access will be removed. Click Sign out again.

The remote device will instantly lose its connection to Google’s servers. If someone tries to open the Google Drive app on that device, they will be kicked back to the login screen and asked for your password.

The “Nuclear Option”: Changing Your Password

If you see a device on that list that you absolutely do not recognize (for example, a Samsung phone when you only own Apple products), someone else might know your password.

In this scenario, signing out the device is not enough, because the hacker could simply log right back in. You must change your password immediately.

Go back to the main Security tab and click on Password to set a new one. Changing your password acts as a master reset—it will automatically and instantly sign out of Google Drive (and Gmail, and YouTube) on every single device in the world except the one you are currently using.
