Delivering remote presentations over Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or Webex often forces a disconnect between speaker and content: meeting software relegates the presenter’s video to a tiny thumbnail square in the corner of attendees’ screens while slide content dominates the canvas. This separation weakens audience engagement and eye contact. Microsoft modernizes virtual presentations in PowerPoint with Cameo (which embeds live camera video feeds directly onto slide canvases with custom formatting and transitions) and Teleprompter Presenter View (which scrolls slide speaker notes directly below your physical webcam for natural eye contact).
Hardware and Software Prerequisites
To utilize Cameo and Teleprompter Presenter View:
- Software: Microsoft 365 subscription on Windows or macOS (version 2208 or later). Cameo feeds also integrate natively with PowerPoint Live sessions inside Microsoft Teams.
- Hardware: An integrated laptop webcam or external USB/HDMI camera with approved video capture drivers.
- Permissions: PowerPoint must have permission to access the camera under operating system privacy settings.
Inserting and Customizing Cameo Live Camera Feeds
To integrate your live video feed into slide layouts:
- Open your slide deck in Microsoft PowerPoint.
- Select the specific slide where you want your video feed to appear.
- Navigate to the Insert tab on the ribbon and click Cameo (located in the Media group).
- PowerPoint places a circular video placeholder on your slide canvas.
- Select the Cameo placeholder. A contextual Camera Format tab appears on the ribbon.
- Customize the presentation style:
- Camera Styles: Choose from round portrait pills, rounded rectangles, hexagonal frames, or soft shadow bevels.
- Camera Shape: Select arbitrary geometric outlines (ovals, rectangles, or custom frames).
- Camera Border & Effects: Apply subtle borders and drop shadows that harmonize with your corporate slide master palette.
- To preview your live feed, click the camera preview button on the Cameo placeholder.
Animating Cameo Transitions with Morph
To seamlessly move your camera feed across different slides during a presentation:
- Insert a Cameo feed in the lower-right corner of Slide 1.
- Duplicate Slide 1 to create Slide 2.
- On Slide 2, move the Cameo feed to the upper-left corner and increase its scale.
- With Slide 2 selected, navigate to the Transitions tab and select Morph.
- During the presentation, advancing from Slide 1 to Slide 2 smoothly glides your live camera feed across the screen without interrupting video playback.
Delivering Talks with Teleprompter Presenter View
To maintain direct eye contact with the camera while referencing detailed speaker notes:
- In PowerPoint, navigate to the Record tab on the ribbon and click From Beginning (or click Presenter View in the Slide Show tab).
- In the upper-right corner of the presenter dashboard, click the Views button and select Teleprompter.
- PowerPoint rearranges the presenter console: your slide speaker notes scroll automatically in large, high-contrast text positioned directly beneath your physical webcam lens.
- Adjust scrolling speed and font size using the on-screen slider controls.
- By looking directly toward your notes, your gaze aligns with the webcam lens, projecting confidence and engagement across remote audiences.
