The Baseband Interception Vector
When you are targeted by aggressive telemarketers, automated robocalls, or malicious phishing attempts, simply ignoring the incoming transmission mathematically fails to solve the architectural problem. The cellular data still pings your device, illuminating the screen and draining battery telemetry. You must instruct the iOS kernel to inject the hostile phone number directly into a master cryptographic blacklist. Once registered, the iPhone’s baseband processor will autonomously intercept the incoming signal at the hardware level, instantly routing the call to a dead end without ever triggering a graphical notification.
How to Block a Number on iPhone
Apple integrated this interception protocol directly into the core Phone and Messages applications, allowing for rapid deployment the microsecond a hostile transmission is received.
1. Method 1: The Recent Calls Excision (The Fastest Protocol):
* This is the standard execution pathway immediately following a spam call.
* Unlock your iPhone and open the native Phone app.
* Tap the Recents tab located at the bottom of the interface (it features a clock icon).
* Locate the specific hostile phone number (or unknown Caller ID) in the chronological list.
* Crucial Target Acquisition: Do NOT tap the phone number itself, as this will execute an immediate return call. You must tap the small, blue “i” (Information) icon located on the absolute right side of that specific row.
* The detailed data card for that transmission will spawn.
2. The Execution Trigger:
* Scroll down to the absolute bottom of this data card.
* Tap the prominent text labelled Block this Caller (written in red).
* A secondary confirmation modal will slide up from the bottom of the screen. Tap Block Contact.
* The iOS kernel instantly writes the number to the master blacklist. Any future calls from this vector will be silently terminated, and text messages will be mathematically dropped into a cryptographic void.
3. Method 2: The SMS/iMessage Interception:
* If the hostile payload arrived via a text message.
* Open the native Messages app and tap the specific spam thread.
* At the absolute top center of the screen, tap the profile icon or the hostile phone number.
* A drop-down menu will appear. Tap the Info button.
* Scroll to the bottom of the resulting screen and tap the red Block this Caller button.
4. The Master Registry Audit (Unblocking):
* If you mathematically calculate that you made a mistake and blocked a legitimate contact, you must audit the registry.
* Open the Settings app.
* Scroll down and tap Phone.
* Scroll down and tap Blocked Contacts. You can swipe left on any number in this master list to mathematically remove the block and restore network connectivity.
