The Document Digitization Vector
Taking a standard photograph of a physical contract or a whiteboard diagram is highly inefficient. Standard JPEGs suffer from perspective distortion, glare, and massive file sizes, making them useless for professional transmission. You must instruct the iPhone’s camera hardware and neural processing unit (NPU) to execute a specialized document scanning algorithm. This protocol automatically detects the physical edges of the paper, mathematically corrects the perspective, flattens the contrast, and compiles the data into a standardized, multi-page PDF.
How to Scan a Document
Apple integrated this advanced optical character recognition (OCR) and perspective-correction engine directly into the native Notes application, eliminating the need for third-party scanning software.
1. The Initialization Protocol:
* Open the Notes app on your iPhone.
* Create a brand new, empty note by tapping the square icon with a pencil in the absolute bottom-right corner.
2. The Hardware Trigger:
* Look at the toolbar located directly above the keyboard.
* Locate and tap the Camera icon.
* A pop-up menu will appear. Select Scan Documents.
3. The Algorithmic Capture Phase:
* The camera interface will activate. Point the lens directly at your physical document.
* Ensure the document is resting on a contrasting background (e.g., white paper on a dark wooden table).
* The iOS neural engine will instantly paint a translucent yellow box over what it perceives to be the edges of the paper.
* Auto-Capture: If you hold the phone perfectly still, the system will automatically snap the photo without you touching the screen. It will instantly correct the perspective and drop a tiny thumbnail into the bottom-left corner.
* Manual Override: If the auto-capture fails, tap the white shutter button manually, then drag the four corners of the bounding box to perfectly align with the edges of the paper. Tap “Keep Scan.”
4. Multi-Page Compilation and Export:
* If you have a 5-page contract, simply point the camera at page two, page three, etc. The system will continuously append them into a single file.
* When all pages are digitized, tap Save in the bottom-right corner.
* The document is now a perfect, flattened PDF embedded inside your Note. You can tap the Share icon (the square with an upward arrow) in the top right corner to instantly email it or save it to your iCloud Drive.
