How to Turn Off Auto-Brightness on iPhone

The Photonic Control Vector

Modern iPhones utilize an ambient light sensor embedded in the front display glass to constantly monitor the physical brightness of your surrounding environment. The operating system uses this data to aggressively adjust the screen’s backlight—dimming it in a dark bedroom and blasting it to maximum brightness under direct sunlight. While this preserves battery life, the constant, automatic flickering can be highly distracting if you are attempting to edit a photograph or read a novel. You must forcefully seize manual control of the backlight hardware.

How to Turn Off Auto-Brightness

Apple intentionally relocated this specific toggle switch away from the primary “Display & Brightness” menu, burying it deep within the Accessibility matrix to discourage average users from disabling it.

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down the main list and tap on Accessibility.
3. In the “Vision” section at the top, tap on Display & Text Size.
4. You must scroll all the way down to the absolute bottom of this massive list of toggles.
5. Locate the setting labelled Auto-Brightness.
6. Tap the toggle switch to move it to the Off position (the switch will turn grey).

The ambient light sensor is now completely disconnected from the backlight controller. Your screen brightness will remain permanently locked at whatever level you manually set it to in the Control Centre, regardless of the ambient lighting conditions in your physical environment. Note: If you leave the brightness at 100% permanently, you will severely degrade your battery lifespan.
