How to Turn Off the Auto-Correction Feature on iPhone

The Linguistic Override Vector

The iOS software keyboard relies on an aggressive predictive dictionary designed to correct typographical errors on the fly. However, if you frequently type in multiple languages simultaneously, use highly specific industry jargon, or prefer to use colloquial slang in your text messages, the Auto-Correction engine becomes a massive hindrance. It will stubbornly rewrite your perfectly valid words into completely different, incorrect phrases the exact moment you hit the spacebar, forcing you to constantly backspace and rewrite your sentences.

How to Turn Off Auto-Correction

You must plunge into the core keyboard settings to sever the dictionary’s ability to override your physical keystrokes.

1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down and tap on General.
3. Scroll down the General menu and tap on Keyboard.
4. You will see a cluster of toggle switches governing all typing behaviour under the “All Keyboards” section.
5. Locate the master toggle switch labelled Auto-Correction.
6. Tap the toggle to switch it to the Off position (the switch will turn grey).

From this moment forward, the iPhone will explicitly trust your keystrokes. It will still underline words it believes are misspelled in red, allowing you to tap them for suggestions if you wish, but it will never forcefully alter a word without your explicit permission.
