How to Disable the Built-In Ad Blocker in Google Chrome

The Native Filtering Vector

Google Chrome includes a native, heavily restricted ad blocker designed specifically to intercept “intrusive” advertisements—such as pop-unders, flashing banners, and auto-playing videos with sound. By default, Chrome enforces this blocking exclusively on websites that fail the Better Ads Standards. However, if you are a web developer testing your own ad implementations, or if you need to access a legacy website that requires pop-ups to function, this silent background blocking can completely break the user experience.

How to Disable the Native Ad Blocker

You can instruct Chrome to stand down and allow all advertisements to render exactly as the website intended.

1. Open Google Chrome.
2. Click the three vertical dots in the extreme top-right corner to open the main menu.
3. Select Settings.
4. In the left-hand navigation pane, click on Privacy and security.
5. Click on Site settings.
6. Scroll down to the very bottom and click on Additional content settings to expand the list.
7. Click on Intrusive ads.
8. Change the default behaviour by selecting the radio button next to Any site you visit can show any ad to you.

Chrome will immediately stop policing advertising frameworks. Be aware that this setting affects the entire browser, meaning you will be exposed to aggressive ad formats across the entire internet until you re-enable the filter.
