How to Turn Off Delivery Optimization in Windows 11

The Bandwidth Consumption Vector

To alleviate the massive strain on its own servers, Microsoft introduced a feature called Delivery Optimization in Windows 11. By default, your PC acts as a node in a massive, peer-to-peer network. When you download a Windows Update, your computer silently uploads those update files to other random PCs on the internet. If you are operating on a strict, metered data connection, or if you simply require maximum upload bandwidth for video conferencing or gaming, this silent background broadcasting is incredibly detrimental.

How to Turn Off Delivery Optimization

You can instruct Windows 11 to stop sharing your bandwidth and force it to download updates strictly from Microsoft’s official servers.

1. Open the Start Menu and click the Settings gear icon (or press the Windows Key + I).
2. In the left-hand sidebar, click on Windows Update.
3. Click on Advanced options in the main window.
4. Scroll down to the Additional options section and click on Delivery Optimization.
5. Locate the master toggle switch labelled Allow downloads from other PCs.
6. Click the toggle to switch it to the Off position.

Your PC will immediately drop out of the peer-to-peer network, ensuring that 100% of your upload bandwidth remains dedicated solely to your own applications.
