How to Block Third-Party Sign-In Prompts Globally in Google Chrome

The Identity Bridging Vector

Google Chrome defaults to a highly integrated identity architecture known as the Federated Credential Management API (FedCM). By default, if you are logged into your Google Account, the browser allows third-party websites to execute a background script that triggers a prominent “Sign in with Google” pop-up overlay directly in your viewport. While designed for frictionless authentication, it is a massive privacy and UI vulnerability. It allows unverified news sites, forums, and data brokers to aggressively prompt you for your primary identity token before you even interact with the page, generating severe visual clutter and increasing the risk of accidental authorization. You must permanently paralyze this identity bridging API.

How to Block Third-Party Sign-In Prompts Globally

You can permanently sever the browser’s ability to expose your identity token via Chrome’s Site Settings.

  1. Open the Google Chrome desktop browser.
  2. Click the three vertical dots (â‹®) in the top right corner and select Settings.
  3. In the left-hand sidebar, click on Privacy and security.
  4. In the main window, click on Site settings.
  5. Scroll down to the “Content” heading and click to expand Additional content settings.
  6. Click on Third-party sign-in.
  7. Under the “Default behavior” heading, select the radio button for “Block sign-in prompts from identity services.”

Total Identity Obfuscation

The change takes effect instantly. Google Chrome will completely sever its internal connection between the background identity daemon and the external DOM. The browser is now permanently barred from generating the FedCM overlay. If a website attempts to execute an API call to trigger the “Sign in with Google” prompt, the browser will instantly auto-reject the query in the background. This guarantees absolute visual clarity and ensures that you are never algorithmically pressured into sacrificing your federated identity token to a third-party domain.
