The First-Party Advertising Engine
Windows 11 includes a deeply embedded advertising mechanism officially labeled “Tailored experiences.” By default, Microsoft takes the diagnostic telemetry data it collects from your machine (such as how you use your computer, which apps you open, and what browser features you engage with) and feeds it into an advertising algorithm. The operating system then injects highly targeted “tips, ads, and recommendations” directly into your Start Menu, Lock Screen, and Settings panel based on your specific behavioral profile. If you refuse to have your operating system function as a personalized billboard, you must destroy this telemetry loop.
How to Disable Tailored Experiences
You can permanently paralyze the operating system’s internal advertising engine via the Privacy settings.
- Click the Start Menu and type Settings, or press the Windows Key + I.
- In the left-hand sidebar, click on Privacy & security.
- Under the “Windows permissions” section, click on Diagnostics & feedback.
- Scroll down and click to expand the Tailored experiences section.
- Toggle the switch labeled “Let Microsoft use your diagnostic data, excluding information about websites you browse, to offer you tailored experiences” to the Off position.
A De-Commercialized Desktop
The change takes effect instantly. Windows 11 will completely sever the internal bridge connecting your local diagnostic telemetry cache to the Start Menu advertising renderer. The operating system is now technically barred from injecting personalized software recommendations or targeted “tips” based on your workflow. This guarantees a strictly utilitarian desktop environment, permanently halting Microsoft’s ability to monetize your behavioral data within the local user interface.
