The Unwanted Screen Mirroring
Windows 11 includes a built-in Miracast receiver feature known as “Projecting to this PC.” When active, this feature turns your desktop computer or laptop into a wireless wireless monitor, allowing other Windows or Android devices on the same local network to beam their screens directly to your display. In a corporate office or a college dorm, leaving this feature enabled is highly disruptive; strangers on the Wi-Fi network can accidentally (or intentionally) attempt to hijack your monitor, interrupting your work with pairing requests. You must completely paralyze this wireless receiver.
How to Disable Projecting to this PC
You can permanently sever the operating system’s Miracast listening daemon via the System settings.
- Click the Start Menu and type Settings, or press the Windows Key + I.
- In the left-hand sidebar, ensure you are on the System tab.
- Scroll down the main window and click on Projecting to this PC.
- Look for the first dropdown menu labeled “Some Windows and Android devices can project to this PC when you say it’s OK.”
- Click the dropdown and change the setting to “Always Off (Recommended).”
A Hardened Display
The change takes effect instantly. Windows 11 will completely terminate the background Miracast listening service. The operating system will immediately stop broadcasting your computer’s name over the local Wi-Fi network as an available wireless display. Anyone attempting to cast their screen from a phone or another laptop will simply not see your PC in their list of available devices. Your monitor is now permanently locked down and absolutely isolated from wireless hijacking attempts.
