How to Disable In-App Rating Prompts on iPhone

The Rating Interruption

Application developers are desperate for five-star reviews on the Apple App Store to boost their software’s ranking. To achieve this, Apple provides them with an API that throws a massive “Enjoying this app?” popup directly into the middle of your screen while you are using the software. This popup demands that you stop what you are doing to rate the app. If you are in the middle of writing an email, navigating through a city, or playing a fast-paced game, this interruption is incredibly jarring and frustrating. If you refuse to be constantly harassed for reviews, you must sever the developer’s ability to trigger the prompt.

How to Turn Off In-App Ratings and Reviews

You can permanently block all installed applications from displaying the review popup via the App Store settings.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down the main list until you locate the App Store section.
  3. Tap on App Store.
  4. Scroll down to the master toggle switch labeled In-App Ratings & Reviews.
  5. Toggle this switch to the Off position (the green background will disappear).

A Silent Experience

The change takes effect instantly. The iPhone will completely intercept and block the API call developers use to trigger the review prompt. You can now use all of your installed applications completely uninterrupted. The software will never again freeze your screen or demand a five-star rating, allowing you to use your phone exactly as intended.
