How to Disable the “AssistiveTouch” On-Screen Button on iPhone

The Floating Obstacle

The iPhone features an incredibly powerful accessibility tool called “AssistiveTouch.” When activated, a persistent, floating grey button appears on your screen. Tapping this button opens a software menu that allows you to simulate physical gestures—like pressing the volume buttons, locking the screen, or swiping—using only single taps on the glass. While this is an essential feature for users with physical motor limitations or those with broken hardware buttons, the floating icon constantly gets in the way of reading text, watching videos, or playing games if turned on accidentally. You must completely disable the software button.

How to Turn Off AssistiveTouch

You can permanently remove the floating button via the Accessibility settings.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Accessibility.
  3. Under the “Physical and Motor” section, tap on Touch.
  4. At the very top of the screen, tap on AssistiveTouch.
  5. Locate the master toggle switch labeled AssistiveTouch.
  6. Toggle this switch to the Off position (the green background will disappear).

A Clear Display

The change takes effect instantly. The iPhone will completely terminate the background rendering engine for the accessibility menu. The floating grey button will immediately vanish from your screen, granting you a completely unobstructed view of your applications and returning full control to the physical hardware buttons and standard swipe gestures.
