Google Chrome includes a highly convenient Autofill feature designed to save you time when shopping online or filling out repetitive forms. It securely stores your name, address, phone number, and even credit card details. However, some users experience a frustrating issue where this data suddenly vanishes, forcing them to manually type out their shipping address every single time. This occurs when Chrome’s privacy settings are configured to automatically clear specific types of browsing data (often misconstrued simply as “history” or “cookies”) every time the browser application is closed.
Protecting Your Saved Form Data
To ensure your addresses and phone numbers remain saved and stop Google Chrome from automatically deleting your Autofill data upon exit, you must adjust the “Clear browsing data on exit” configuration.
Open Google Chrome. Click the three vertical dots in the top-right corner and select Settings. In the left-hand navigation sidebar, click on Privacy and security. In the main panel, click on Site settings. Scroll down and click to expand Additional content settings, then select On-device site data. Ensure that the setting to “Delete data sites have saved to your device when you close all windows” is turned Off. However, the most critical step requires you to check your manual clearing habits. Go back to Privacy and security and click Clear browsing data. Click the Advanced tab. If you ever use this tool, ensure the checkbox next to Autofill form data is completely unchecked. If it is checked here, certain aggressive third-party privacy extensions or antivirus software might be using this setting to trigger automatic wipes.
