How to Disable the ‘Shake mouse pointer to locate’ Feature Completely in macOS

The Giant Cursor

macOS includes a clever accessibility feature designed for users with massive, high-resolution monitors or multi-display setups. If you lose track of where your mouse cursor is on the screen, rapidly shaking your physical mouse (or aggressively swiping back and forth on your trackpad) will cause the on-screen cursor to briefly inflate to a massive size, making it instantly visible. While incredibly helpful for many, this feature can be highly disruptive for graphic designers doing rapid, twitchy brush strokes, or gamers playing intense titles, where a sudden, giant black arrow covering the screen breaks concentration or ruins an action.

Disabling the Shake Detection

To maintain a consistent pointer size during fast movements and disable the “shake mouse pointer to locate” feature completely in macOS, you must adjust the core display accessibility settings.

Click the Apple logo in the extreme top-left corner of your screen and select System Settings from the dropdown menu. In the left-hand navigation sidebar, scroll down and click on Accessibility. On the right-hand panel, look under the “Vision” section and click on Display. Scroll down the resulting page until you find the specific section dedicated to the “Pointer.” You will see a toggle switch explicitly labelled Shake mouse pointer to locate. Click this toggle switch so it turns from blue to grey (Off). You can immediately test the change; no matter how violently you shake your physical mouse, the digital cursor will remain perfectly static at its standard, default size.
