How to Disable the macOS ‘Show Fast User Switching in Control Center’ Option

The Control Center Clutter

In modern versions of macOS, Apple introduced the Control Center—a unified drop-down panel in the top-right corner of the Menu Bar designed to house essential system toggles like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, AirDrop, and Display Brightness. To make the system as accessible as possible for multi-user households, macOS also allows you to place a “Fast User Switching” module directly inside this Control Center. This allows you to quickly click your profile icon and swap to another family member’s account without having to log out entirely.

However, if you are the absolute only person who ever uses your Mac (which is true for the vast majority of MacBook owners), this Fast User Switching module is completely useless. It takes up valuable vertical space inside the Control Center panel, pushing other, more useful modules (like Now Playing or Sound controls) further down the list. If you want to declutter your Control Center and streamline your interface, you should remove this redundant multi-user feature.

How to Remove Fast User Switching from Control Center

You can hide the user switching module via the System Settings menu.

  1. Click the Apple Logo in the top-left corner of the screen and select System Settings… (or System Preferences).
  2. In the left-hand sidebar, scroll down and click on Control Center.
  3. In the right-hand pane, scroll down until you find the section labelled Fast User Switching.
  4. Look for the toggle switch (or dropdown menu, depending on your exact macOS version) next to Show in Control Center.
  5. Click the toggle switch to turn it Off.

The Fast User Switching icon will immediately vanish from your Control Center drop-down, giving you a cleaner, more personalized quick-access panel.
