The Menu Bar Battery Icon
By default, macOS displays a battery icon in the top-right corner of the menu bar on all MacBook laptops. This icon provides a quick visual reference for your current charge level and whether the Mac is connected to power. Clicking it reveals the exact percentage and power source details.
However, if your MacBook is permanently docked to a monitor and constantly plugged into power, the battery icon serves absolutely no purpose and simply takes up valuable space in your menu bar. Alternatively, some users find themselves obsessively checking their battery percentage, inducing battery anxiety. In either case, if you prefer a cleaner, more minimalist menu bar, you can completely remove the battery indicator.
How to Hide the Battery Status Icon
You can remove the icon using the Control Center settings.
- Click the Apple Logo in the top-left corner of the menu bar and select System Settings… (or System Preferences).
- Scroll down the left-hand sidebar and click on Control Center (On older macOS versions, this is under “Dock & Menu Bar”).
- Scroll down the right-hand pane to the “Battery” section.
- Look for the toggle switch labelled Show in Menu Bar.
- Toggle the switch to the Off position.
The battery icon will instantly vanish from your menu bar. (Note: You can still check your battery status anytime by clicking the Control Center icon—the two small toggle switches—in the menu bar, as the battery level is permanently displayed inside the Control Center dropdown menu).
