In recent updates, Mozilla Firefox added a dedicated “Extensions” button (an icon that looks like a small jigsaw puzzle piece) to the main toolbar next to the address bar. This button acts as a unified drop-down menu for managing all your installed add-ons. However, if you rarely install new extensions, or if you prefer to pin your most frequently used extensions directly to the toolbar and hide the rest, this puzzle piece icon simply consumes valuable horizontal space. If you prefer a minimalist interface, you can completely remove the Extensions button.
How to Hide the Extensions Button
You can easily remove this icon using the browser’s built-in toolbar customization mode.
- Open the Mozilla Firefox browser.
- Right-click anywhere on the empty, blank space on the main toolbar (next to your open tabs or next to the address bar).
- Select Customize Toolbar… from the context menu.
- The browser will switch into customization mode, and a new tab will open displaying all available icons.
- Look at your toolbar and locate the Extensions button (the jigsaw puzzle piece).
- Click and hold the Extensions button with your mouse.
- Drag the button downwards off the toolbar and drop it into the main grid of unused icons in the center of the screen.
- Click the blue Done button at the bottom right of the screen.
The puzzle piece icon will vanish from your toolbar, giving you a cleaner aesthetic and more room for the URL address bar. You can still access your extensions at any time by clicking the main Application Menu (the three lines) and selecting “Add-ons and themes”.
