When you are checking out at an online store or signing up for a new service, Mozilla Firefox will often prompt you to automatically fill in the required web forms with your saved name, address, phone number, and email. While “Autofill” is an incredible time-saver, it can also be a privacy concern. If you share your computer with family members or roommates, they could accidentally (or intentionally) autofill your personal contact details into a website. If you prefer to manually type your information to maintain strict privacy, you can disable this feature entirely.
How to Disable Automatic Form Filling
You can turn off address and form autofill directly from the main Firefox privacy settings.
- Open the Mozilla Firefox browser.
- Click the Application Menu button (the three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner of the window.
- Select Settings from the drop-down list.
- In the left-hand sidebar menu, click on Privacy & Security.
- Scroll down the page until you find the section titled Forms and Autofill.
- Locate the checkbox labelled Autofill addresses.
- Click the checkbox to uncheck it.
Firefox will immediately stop offering to fill in your personal details when you click on a text box on a website. Note that this setting specifically controls physical addresses and contact information; if you also want to stop Firefox from automatically filling in your passwords, you must disable the separate “Autofill logins and passwords” toggle located further up the page in the “Logins and Passwords” section.
