The “Mock Locations” feature allows developers to simulate GPS coordinates on an Android device for testing purposes. However, leaving this feature enabled can interfere with standard location-based apps like Google Maps, Uber, or Pokémon GO. This guide explains how to completely disable mock locations system-wide on your Android device.
Why Disable Mock Locations?
When an app is set to spoof your location, legitimate services that rely on accurate GPS data will receive the fake coordinates instead. This can cause navigation apps to fail, weather widgets to display incorrect data, and location-based games to issue bans. If you are no longer actively testing location spoofing, it is crucial to disable this developer setting.
Disable Mock Locations in Developer Options
To turn off location spoofing, you need to access the hidden Developer Options menu:
- Open the Settings app on your Android device.
- Scroll down to the bottom and tap on System (or About phone on some devices).
- Tap on Developer options. (If you don’t see this, you need to enable it by tapping “Build number” seven times in the About phone menu).
- Scroll down to the Location or Debugging section.
- Tap on Select mock location app.
