By default, when you type anything into the address bar of Microsoft Edge, the browser immediately sends your keystrokes to Bing (or your default search engine) to generate live search suggestions and predict the URLs of websites you might want to visit. While this speeds up general browsing, it constitutes a massive privacy leak. Every single typo, half-formed thought, or sensitive query you begin typing is instantly transmitted to a third-party server before you even press Enter. Disable Search Suggestions via Edge Settings
You can stop the browser from broadcasting your keystrokes by modifying a toggle within the deep privacy settings of Microsoft Edge. This method takes effect immediately and does not require administrative privileges.
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click the three horizontal dots (Settings and more) located in the top-right corner of the window.
- Select Settings from the drop-down menu.
- In the left-hand navigation pane, click on Privacy, search, and services.
