The Cluttered Address Dropdown
Google Chrome features a robust autofill engine designed to save you time when shopping online or signing up for newsletters. Whenever it detects a form asking for your name, address, or phone number, it provides a dropdown menu of previously saved data. However, over time, Chrome can save dozens of slightly different variations of your address, old phone numbers, and names of people you once bought a gift for. Having this cluttered list pop up every time you click into a text box is not only visually annoying but can easily lead to accidentally submitting the wrong shipping address.
How to Disable the Addresses Autofill Feature
If you prefer to type your shipping and contact information manually every time to ensure accuracy, you can completely disable the form autofill feature.
1. Open Google Chrome.
2. Click the three vertical dots in the top-right corner of the window.
3. Select Settings from the drop-down menu.
4. In the left-hand sidebar, click on Autofill and passwords.
5. Click on Addresses and more in the main pane.
6. Locate the toggle switch at the top labelled Save and fill addresses.
7. Click the toggle switch to turn it Off.
Cleaning Up Existing Data
Turning this setting off prevents Chrome from capturing any new addresses and stops the dropdown menu from appearing when you click into a form. However, it does not delete the old data stored in your browser. To completely clear out your history, look directly below the toggle switch you just turned off. You will see a list of every address Chrome has ever saved. Click the three vertical dots next to each entry and select Remove to permanently delete them from your profile.
